There are many companies in the UAE that have been created by visitors who were once tourists; anecdotally we hear stories of ‘the man who never went home’. Of course there are no statistics to show how many companies started in this manner, however this anecdote describes rather well the entrepreneurial nature of the United Arab Emirates. Today, however, if you want to set up a business in Dubai, or Abu Dhabi, taking a vacation first is not mandatory.
As a company in the UK there are two obvious ways to start expansion into the Middle East (using the BCB). The first port of call is either the to Export scheme, or through your local Chamber of Commerce. Equally you can tap into advice and support on the ground in the UAE from the UKTI, Invest Northern Ireland, the Welsh Government and Scottish Development International. These initiatives & entities are well suited to advise you on your company’s options and, should the next step be warranted, they will help introduce you to the BCB.
If you then decide that a move to the UAE is indeed in the best interests of your company, you are advised to seek local legal advice to check and confirm all options available (we will supply a shortlist of recommended law firms). You will then complete the BCB application form and, assuming this is successful, the company formation process will begin culminating in our procuring a UAE trade licence on your behalf.
The British Centres for Business is part of the global Overseas Business Networks initiative created by the UK government to aid in the expansion of British companies. If you are going to expand your company overseas, doing so using a government-backed incubator is likely a better option than simply not returning home after a holiday!
