BCB’s November Newsletter: COP 28 in the UAE

29 Nov, 2023

Good Morning

COP 28 starts in Dubai tomorrow, where King Charles III will give the opening address to delegates made up of as many as 140 heads of state plus luminaries from the world of business, culture and, of course, leaders in the fields of sustainability, renewable energy, the green economy and net zero.

With the world’s ESG eyes fixed on the UAE for the next two weeks, we’re shedding light on a number of the key issues and topics that are under discussion in the Middle East as a result:

–    What is the wider GCC’s track record in sustainability and how does this weave not national economic plans?
–    Harnessing COP28 to supercharge the UAE’s impact investing agenda
–    Shifting Climate Diplomacy: Is there a realignment of influence in global climate negotiations?
–    How do UAE buyers and importers prioritise sustainability in their procurement and business habits?

We hope these are useful reference points for your wider understanding of how the green economy is taking root in the region, and issues and factors for you to consider in this area when you’re doing business here.

Regards
Joe
