Dubai unveils solar-powered Wi-Fi date palm providers

Dubai is taking advantage of its sunshine and clear blue skies to provide Wi-Fi in fake date palms. Beaches and streets will be locations for the solar-powered Smart Palm stations which provide free wireless internet access. They will also give information on local attractions and have facilities for charging up mobile devices.

Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC) tasked with nominating designers from the Middle East for the International Woolmark Prize.

To build a flourishing fashion industry, you not only have to celebrate your homegrown talent, but bring some of them back home, says Nez Gebreel, the CEO of the Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC). This week in Dubai, Gebreel’s organisation is hosting the regional rounds of the prestigious International Woolmark Prize (IWP) where 11 shortlisted designers — eight for womenswear and three for menswear — will present samples of their collections. One womenswear and one menswear designer will then go on to represent the region, which covers the Middle East, India and Pakistan, at the international finals.

Dubai Creative Clusters Authority launched, with key sector focus on Film/TV production, Broadcast, Design and Fashion.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, has issued Law No.15 of 2014 concerning the Creative Clusters in the Emirate of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also issued two Decrees appointing Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, as Chairman of Dubai Creative Clusters Authority, and Ahmad Bin Byat as Director-General of the Authority.
